The City Council tonight (Sept. 14) will consider investing in the downtown area by negotiating the purchase of the Stein Mart site on Marguerite Parkway through bond financing. This area is part of the Core Area Vision Plan, the community-based dynamic design for the City’s Downtown Core area that was approved by the City in 2017. Â
To be clear, the proposed bond financing under consideration tonight to fund the Stein Mart property purchase as a step toward the much-needed redevelopment of our downtown core does not include a plan for the elimination of any current City programs and services. While the City’s Agenda Report mentions the reduction and elimination of some subsidies, the City is proposing to redirect and replace funding with the least impact to current service levels of programming. You can find detailed information in the City Council Agenda Packet.
