City Talks New Crosswalks For Pedestrians, Tourism Efforts Tuesday
Mission Viejo City council members will discuss the city's efforts to attract athletes from around the world to the city.
MISSION VIEJO, CA — Mission Viejo City council members will decide whether or not to continue the city's efforts to attract tourism and athletes to the City of Mission Viejo during Tuesday's meeting.
In particular, the city will discuss the Sports Tourism Committee's efforts to attraction national and international athletes and teams to Mission Viejo.
"Mayor Goodell has been actively hosting a meeting with National Olympic Committees and National Sports Federations from around the world," a city staff report read. "An invitation for him to attend the Oceania National Olympic Committee — also known as ONOC — meetings in April led to engagement with nearly 20 different NOC and National Paralympic Committees."

According to the city, the council recently approved a trip for Mayor Goodell to represent the City of Mission Viejo at ONOC meetings in November. The city council will consider altering the destination of the trip for the opportunity to attend next month's Panam Sports meetings in Santiago, Chile.
"This trip would give the Mayor the chance to meet with 40 NOCs from throughout the Americas, numerous International and National Sports Federations and International Olympic Committee members and staff," the city said.

Council members will also discuss a contract that would provide more safety measures for pedestrians in the city.
On Tuesday, council members will consider awarding a contract for the initial phase to intall a signalized crosswalk for pedestrians crossing Olympiad Road between Lake Mission Viejo and Marty Russo Youth Athletic Park.
The Mission Viejo City Council typically meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 200 Civic Center. For detailed meeting dates and times, check the city's website.
