Council will consider enhancements at local sports field

Mission Viejo City Council meets on June 28

(City of Mission Viejo )

The City Council on Tuesday, June 28 will consider enhancements at Marty Russo Youth Athletic Park and the Marguerite Aquatics Complex, among other business.

Council Members will consider a contract to install new poles and LED light fixtures at Marty Russo Youth Athletic Park on Olympiad Road. The City worked extensively with the sports leagues and surrounding neighbors on the plans for new lighting at the sports fields.

Along with the energy-efficient lighting to enhance the safety of the sports park, the Council will consider some maintenance and repairs to the dive tower at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex. The tower is need of minor repairs because of continual use by divers from Mission Viejo and across the globe.

Council Members will also consider the Oso Creek Golf Course’s budget and operations. Since purchasing the golf course more than two years ago, the City has used revenues generated from patrons to make several major improvements to the course – with additional enhancements planned in the future. Before the City purchased the golf course, it generated $2.2 million annually, and – now – fiscal year 2021/22 revenues are projected at $3.7 million.

In other agenda news, the Council will proclaim the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month, and representatives from Moulton Niguel Water District and Santa Margarita Water District will give a presentation about California’s severe drought and the districts’ response.

The Council meets at 6 pm at 200 Civic Center. Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
