CUSD Teachers Contract Limits Minimum Days of School to 8. The District is at 11 - Elementary Students Have Lost Instructional Days

Minimum Days That Are Specified On The Calendar Include:

Elementary School: 11 minimum days

• 1 Day - Opening Day of School September 4, 2014
• 1 Day - Back To School Night (Sept 23, Oct 1 or 2, 2014- Tues- Wed- Thurs - School Site Choice)
• 2 Days Parent Conferences Nov 20 and 21, 2014
• 5 Days Parent Conferences March 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 2015
• 1 Day Last Day of School June 19, 2014
• *1 Day Open House is not on the Approved District Calendar but Schools are holding Open House and taking a minimum day that has not been approved by the Board.

Middle School: 3 minimum days

• 1 Day - Back To School Night (Sept 9, 10, 11, 2014- Tues- Wed- Thurs - School Site Choice)
• 1 Day Last Day of School June 19, 2014
• *1 Day Open House is not on the Approved District Calendar but Schools are holding Open House and taking a minimum day that has not been approved by the Board.

High School: 8 minimum days

• 1 Day - Back To School Night (Sept 15, 16, 17, 18, 2014- Mon - Tues- Wed- Thurs - School Site Choice)
• 3 Days - Final Exams (Jan 27, 28, 29)
• 2 Days - Final Exams (June 17 and 18 2015)
• 1 Day Last Day of School June 19, 2015
• 1 Day Open House is not on the Approved District Calendar but Schools are holding Open House and taking a minimum day that has not been approved by the Board.

5.10 The District shall provide a minimum day schedule.

5.10.1 K-5 minimum days will be on the first and last student days, Back to School Nights or Open Houses as scheduled by the District. Unit members shall participate in such activities as required by the immediate supervisor.

5.10.2 Kindergarten Conferences: A minimum day Schedule may be observed during fall/spring conferences with parents, if requested by teachers and the site principal approves.

5.10.3 6-8 minimum days will be on the last student day, Back to School Nights or Open Houses as scheduled by the District. Unit members shall participate in such activities as required by the immediate supervisor. 11

5.10.4 High School minimum days will be on Back-to-School Nights and Open Houses as scheduled by the District. Unit members shall participate in such activities as required by the immediate supervisor.

5.10.5 Individual school sites may choose to develop alternative schedules which do not fall on a designated minimum day provided: Schedules are developed collaboratively between teachers and site administration. Alternative schedules are approved by mutual agreement by the District and Association. This agreement shall constitute a majority, secret ballot vote by affected members.

It should be noted that the contract allows for minimum days for Kindergarten conferences not minimum days for elementary school conferences.

An audit of instructional minutes should be done to ensure that students are receiving the minimum instructional time they are entitled to.
