On Sat., May 3, 2014 the gates will open for the 3rd Annual Doubleheader Amputee Softball Game at the Youth Athletic Park at Lake Mission Viejo, 22056 Olympiad Rd, Mission Viejo, CA 92692 at 11:30 am.
The first game will start at 1 pm with the WWAST playing against a team comprised of Orange County first responders. The second game, a celebrity exhibition will follow at 3:30 pm and consist of seven innings.
The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team plays all over the country and is comprised of 24 players from all over the United States. They are veterans and active duty soldiers whose injuries have resulted in amputations while in the military. Their motto is “Life without a Limb is Limitless.” They have had various amputations of the arm, hand, foot, bilateral below knee and above the knee.

The all-star team will consist of former athletes that will include Angels pitcher, Justin Speir, NFL Punter, Mike Horan, Angel and Dodger, Jay Johnstone, KFI-AM radio host, Gary Hoffman, pro baseball player, vocalist and actor Mike “Majik” Boyd, NFL football player, Mission Viejo High School football coach, Rob Johnston and his brother Bret Johnson, MVHS football coach.
WWAST’s goal is to raise money while creating awareness for medical, financial and personal needs of military veterans in addition to promoting research and development of high-quality prostheses.

Tickets that include a barbeque and raffle opportunity are $25 for adults, $10 for 17-years old and under, and kids under 5 years old are free. Active-duty military and veterans receive a $5 discount.
Some of the silent auction prizes are tickets for prime seating at LA Clippers, LA Angels, LA Dodgers and LA Lakers games, signed baseball bats, restaurant gift certificates, sports memorabilia, Bluetooth speakers and much more.
This year there will be a kids zone that will feature a bounce house, face painting and the Orange County Fire Authority firefighters will be there with a ladder truck.
