Fallen Officer Remembered In Orange County
A Mission Viejo motorcycle collision in 2002 claimed the life of Orange County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Matthew Davis. The OCSD remembers.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Fallen officer Orange County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Matthew Davis was remembered Friday for his service and tragic death 15 years ago.
On the afternoon of Friday, September 20, 2002 tragedy struck the family of the Orange County Sheriff's Department when Sgt. Matthew Davis was involved in a traffic collision while on motorcycle patrol.
"While on duty in the City of Mission Viejo, Sergeant Davis was involved in a traffic collision on his motorcycle after a vehicle making a left hand turn pulled into his lane," OCSD spokesperson said. "Sergeant Davis fought vigilantly for two days, and despite heroic medical efforts, succumbed to his injuries on September 22, 2002."

"Today we remember a fallen hero, OCSD Sergeant Matthew Davis.Sergeant Matthew R. Davis joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in 1986. After graduating Sheriff’s Basic Academy, he worked in the Theo Lacy Branch Jail for two years and then was promoted to Deputy II and transferred to the South Operations Division. After a few years of working in the Major Accident Reconstruction Team he was selected a Motor Officer in Mission Viejo and 1999 was promoted to the rank of Sergeant," OCSD said over Facebook announcement.
"Sergeant Davis will always be remembered not only as a friend, but also as a hero. He maintained a friendly, professional and business like demeanor as he dealt with his co-workers and members of the community he served," they said. "Thank you for your service, Sergeant Davis. #WeAreOCSD"
