Fire at Oishii Sushi: 3 Firefighters Injured Battling Blaze

The fire was reported Friday morning at the strip mall restaurant bordering Lake Forest and Mission Viejo.

Three firefighters were hurt battling a blaze in a sushi restaurant in Mission Viejo today.

The fire started for unknown reasons about 7:35 a.m. at the Oishii Sushi restaurant at 25542 Jeronimo Road, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

The restaurant was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and it took them until 9 a.m. to extinguish the blaze, Concialdi said.

Three neighboring businesses -- a pain relief clinic, a massage center and the Hacienda La Joya restaurant -- sustained water and smoke damage, the captain said.

Two firefighters were hurt cutting a hole in the roof for ventilation to keep the flames from spreading to the neighboring businesses, Concialdi said. They sustained first- and second-degree hand burns and were credited with saving the strip mall, Concialdi said.

The fire's cause was under investigation, Concialdi said.
