Attempted Robbery At Mission Viejo Mall, Arrest Made: Cops

Orange County Sheriff's Deputies combed the Mission Viejo Mall, after an attempted smash-and-grab robbery at the Shops at Mission Viejo.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — One suspect was in custody and another escaped following an attempted jewelry store robbery at the Shops at Mission Viejo, Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Carrie Braun said. Two men armed with hammers smashed glass display cases at the Fredric H. Rubel Jewelry Store at the popular Mission Viejo mall at just after 4 p.m., according to Braun.

An interruption forced them to flee shortly thereafter, and they took off on foot before they could pilfer any jewelry from the store.

No merchandise was taken and the mall has since reopened. Though witnesses reported hearing loud noises from the store, there were no shots fired, only the hammer-smashing of large display cases. No one was injured during the incident.
