As promised in my previous pushup post (good alliteration, huh?) here are some common problems people have with their form when doing pushups.
Problem #1 | Hiking up your hips
Why do you do it?
This is usually because the pectorals are too weak to carry all your body weight through the movement. By bending at the waist and segmenting your body, you put more weight into the legs and take pressure off of your upper body.
What’s the fix?
Do incline pushups. Place your hands on a bench, table, or some elevated surface. This will put more of your body weight into your legs and allow you to maintain good form.
Another option is to do pushups on your knees, but make sure you don’t do the same thing and stick your butt up in the air. The line from your knee to your shoulder should be strait and not broken, like Nathan’s form in the final picture.
