Fatality Reported In Mission Viejo Multiple-Vehicle Crash

A multi-car crash occurred Thursday afternoon on Olympiad Road and La Paz Road, authorities said.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — A deadly crash occurred in the area of La Paz Road and Olympiad Road in Mission Viejo Thursday afternoon. Drivers were told to avoid the area if possible.

A total of four vehicles were involved in the crash. Three people were injured, and a fourth person was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Orange County Sheriff's Department officers, Orange County Fire Authority and multiple ambulances responded to the scene to free an injured driver.

Around 1:45 p.m., multiple calls referenced a man causing a disturbance in the area of the 27000 block of La Paz road. That man, in his 50s, died after the crash, according to OCSD Sgt. Joses Wahlehwah.

An incident involving the man occurred just before the crash, according to multiple 911 calls.

Reports say he was acting in a bizarre manner, according to OCSD dispatch officers.

During the incident and fatality investigation that followed, traffic was stopped on Olympiad Road at Escatron to the north, and at Felipe Road at Meadowbrook to the south. La Paz traffic was diverted at Silleros.
