Irvine SunWheel, New And Improved, Returns To Spectrum Center: What To Know

IRVINE, CA — The Irvine Spectrum SunWheel is returning soon to the Irvine Spectrum Center, officials say. With an expected Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony planned at 10 a.m. on Sept. 5, at the Irvine Spectrum shopping center, located at 670 Spectrum Center Drive, Irvine, visitors can expect live music, DJs, and giveaways to mark the occasion.

The reimagined Ferris Wheel attraction takes immersive experiences to new heights, according to the designers. It reaches 132 feet tall, making this wheel 24 feet taller than its predecessor. "It provides stunning views above the heart of the popular lifestyle epicenter."

And yes, on a clear day, you can see the ocean from up there.

The Spectrum SunWheel now takes permanent residence in the former site of Irvine Spectrum Center’s Giant Wheel, which originally debuted in 2002.

Manufactured by Italy-based Fabbri Group, which has created observation wheels for a variety of international destinations, the Spectrum SunWheel introduces several key features.

In addition to increased height, the major attractions include 27 gondolas that comfortably seat up to six passengers, an enhanced in-gondola audio system, dazzling programmable LED technology with rim and spoke lighting, and improved ride operations designed to reduce wait times, according to the center's news release.
