K-8 School Put On 'Shelter In Place' Tuesday After Police Activity In Mission Viejo
Students and staff at the Mission Viejo school were placed on a "shelter in place" Tuesday afternoon due to police activity near the school.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Staff and students at Carl Hankey K-8 School in Mission Viejo were told to "shelter in place" after police activity was reported near the school Tuesday afternoon, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.
The police activity was reported near the 27000 block of El Retiro at around noon Tuesday.
At 2 p.m., Orange County Sheriff's deputies reported that the school would continue to operate within normal school hours.

The police activity prompted authorities to close Felipe Road, and parents and guardians picking up children were asked to use Jardines to access the school.

According to authorities, the school was put on a "shelter-in-place" for precautionary measures and there is no direct threat to the school.
Residents were told to avoid the area until further updates.
