Laguna Beach School Officer Appointed
Laguna Beach Unified School District and the Laguna Beach Police Department announced their first Student Resource Officer.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — There's a new Student Resource Officer in town! The Laguna Beach Police Department announced that the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board approved a formal Memorandum of Understanding to allow for a School Resource Officer to be assigned to their campuses during the calendar school year.
Cpl. Cornelius Ashton has the honor of being the first elected as Laguna Beach Police Department's first School Resource Officer.
Ashton has eighteen years of law enforcement experience, including 15 years at the San Diego Community School District and three years at the Laguna Beach Police Department.

Cpl. Ashton has previous experience as a juvenile crimes detective and a proven track record for fostering positive relationships with students, parents, and
school faculty, the department said.
“This is an exciting new opportunity that will give the police department the ability to better connect with the youth of our community, enhance school security, prevention and education as it relates to bullying and drug resistance, and to provide support to the faculty and parents,” said Captain Jeff Calvert.
