Sculpture, Paintings and more at Saddleback Year-End Art Show

The Saddleback College Art Gallery's 2012 Juried Student Art Exhibition

The Saddleback College Art Gallery’s annual Juried Student Art Exhibition features work from Saddleback College’s studio art, photography and graphic design students. From about 400 submitted entries, 80 pieces were chosen for display at the exhibit.

students were given the opportunity to vote on their favorite pieces on display at The Juried Student Art Exhibition. Jon Hartl, who won Best of Show for his sculpture, “In the Spirit”, knows first-hand about the hard work that has gone into each student's piece.

“You know how much of a labor of love this is”, says Hartl, while speaking about the creation of his award-winning sculpture.

Hartl won $500 for his piece at the artists’ awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 1st. Awards announced included:  

  • Best of Show: #50  Jon Hartl  “In the Spirit”
  • Dean’s Choice Award: Norma Vance “Haiku”
  • President’s Choice Award: Fery Khadivi “City Light”
  • Painting/oil or acrylic: Noanie Renuart “The Old Violin”
  • Painting/watercolor: Linda West “Under the Knife”                              
  • Printmaking: Varsha Patel “Birch Trees”
  • Drawing: Gabriel Gonzalez “Diana’s Boon”
  • Ceramic: Dawn McNamana “Remover of Obstacles”
  • Sculpture: Nikita Young “Many Faces”
  • Photo: Dustin Dill “Determination”
  • Jewelry: Janine Sun “Dream of Flight”
  • 2D/3D Projects: Eunpyo Hong “Old Mans Head”

Bob Rickerson, the Saddleback Art Gallery director, urges the people of Mission Viejo to come see the exhibit for its remarkably advanced pieces.

“People can’t believe the high quality of the work”, says Rickerson, while also advertising the “free admission and the free licorice” available to visitors of the exhibit.

Rickerson has annually hosted The Juried Student Art Exhibit at Saddleback’s Art Gallery for 11 years.

This exhibit is no longer on display, but you can still visit the gallery. The Saddleback College Art Gallery hours are Monday-Wednesday, Noon to 4 pm. Free parking is available at Saddleback College in Lot 12, off the Avery Parkway exit.
