Man, 64, Killed Riding Motorized Scooter on the 5 Freeway

A man was struck by several drivers and killed while riding his motorized scooter on the 5 Freeway in Mission Viejo.

MISSION VIEJO, CA - The Orange County coroner's office today released the name of a 64-year-old man who was killed when he was struck by several vehicles on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Mission Viejo while riding a motorized scooter.

John Meyer of Costa Mesa was riding his scooter on the southbound 5 Freeway south of Oso Parkway about 6 p.m. Wednesday, when he was hit by a number of vehicles, according to the coroner's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol in Orange County.
