Mimi Walters Represents the Washington Establishment Aristocracy

Republican Congresswoman of California’s 45th Congressional District, Mimi Walters is running for re-election in the primary scheduled for June 7th. She and her supporters are hosting an event at Big Canyon Country Club, in Newport Beach on Wednesday, May 4th, 2016. The most notable speaker attending the event is House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a leader in the establishment structure of the Republican Party. This event has several other speakers, hosts, and co-hosts. The event consists of a VIP photo reception, a cocktail reception, and a private dinner. In order to be able to attend this event, one must acquire tickets to enter.

The tickets to get in aren’t cheap. At the most basic level, it’s $500 for the ticket granting entrance to the hour long cocktail reception. Next, the thirty minute VIP photo event is $2700 per person. If it’s a couple, it’s not a package deal, expect to pay $5400 to take the picture together as a couple. Above that, the next level is the co-host committee which is $5400 per person, once again as a couple it’d end up being $10,800. Finally, to be on the coveted host committee, it will cost $25,000 per couple; at last, this is the level where it becomes a package deal for couples. Except, if one actually does the math, the jump doesn’t make sense, and even if you factor in the couples package, it doesn’t quite rationalize the price jump from the previous level of over ten thousand dollars for couples, to the twenty five thousand dollar level at the next level.

One has to question the thought process of a public servant holding an event such as this one. Mimi Walters is absolutely the example of a Washington establishment member. It seems odd that to take a mere picture, for just a brief amount of time, with a public servant that was elected by the very people she serves, that it would cost a large amount of money like $2700 for a simple photograph with her. Maybe she’s forgotten that she isn’t a big Hollywood celebrity, but a public servant that was elected by the people for the people, and that means all people. Not just those that line her pockets and fund her campaign with large sums of money going well beyond the ten thousand dollar mark. Its things like these that make one question Mimi Walters’ intentions in holding events like this. It’s as if she wishes to buy this election rather than knock on doors of her constituents to see what are on their minds.

At the end of the day, one should be wary of their elected officials, their public servants, and the candidates running for elected office methods in raising their money. It’s no secret that Mimi Walters is heavily funded by several special interests, and truly, her voting record reflects this blatantly. Hopefully her robo calls, vicious attack ads, focus groups, and obvious pandering are not enough to sweet talk the constituents and voters of the 45th Congressional District of California. It would be a shame to let the same business as usual, status quo politics that have plagued our political process for too long to continue. It’s no secret that people are angry at the way things are being run and done in Washington. Mimi Walters is a perfect example of why. It’s time to change the way things are done. We the people are sick of it.
