The Mission Viejo Activity Committee recently awarded three, outstanding high school seniors with a $1,000 scholarship each. The scholarships are based on volunteerism in the community, academic achievements, leadership skills, school participation and ability to succeed.
MVAC has awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships since 2001. The volunteer organization is a group who plan many events in Mission Viejo- “Up in the Air”, 4th of July Street Faire and Fireworks Spectacular and Santa's Village and Workshop.......just to name a few.
The 2014 scholarships recipients are: Christopher Cardenas, Lisa Hoang and Ramtin Talebi, all from Capistrano Valley High School.

Christopher Cardenas volunteers at Bathgate Elementary School, Door of Faith and Catholic Services. He established a monthly donation for troops in Afghanistan that has a Mission Viejo resident. Cardenas received the Cougar of the Year award. He has volunteered more than 300 hours. At Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he plans to major in mechanical engineering so he can design prosthetics for wounded soldiers.
Lisa Hoang volunteers with Mission Hospital Student Auxilary, Community of Character and Kick Start Capo. Hoang has volunteered more than 1400 hours. At the University of California, Berkeley she plans to major in Neuroscience and Physiology so she can practice medicine as a doctor or physicians assistant.

Ramtin Talebi is the Student Government President. Talebi volunteers with the Student Body, CA Scholarship Federation and Free the Children. He has volunteered more than 350 hours and plans to major in Cellular and Developmental Biology at Harvard University so he can become an oncologist. When he was 7 years old his Dad died from cancer.
Anyone within the city of Mission Viejo or the surrounding area is welcome to join MVAC. There are no dues or fees. We welcome you to put your talents to work. The committee meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the Norman Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, CA 92692.
