Jesse Torres, 25, was originally booked on suspicion of attempted murder, and deputies recovered a weapon used in the attack, Braun said.
Torres was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, raised from $500,000 after the victim's death, according to jail records.
"We are working with the District Attorney's office on charges, and the case is being investigated by the OCSD homicide unit," Braun said.
