Cops Search For Garage Intruder in Mission Viejo

A homeowner reported finding someone inside his garage searching with a flashlight. What would you do in that situation?

MISSION VIEJO, CA —This week, a Mission Viejo resident reported an intruder searching his garage, police services reported. The homeowner reported that he heard someone enter the area through his side gate. They saw a person "inside of his garage" searching through cabinets with a flashlight.

The resident reported the incident by calling 911.

Officers responded to the home, located near Alicia Parkway and Calle Azorin, and searched for a white man in his 20s, wearing a dark, short-sleeved t-shirt and dark shorts.

"The victim was unable to determine if anything was stolen at this time," Mission Viejo Sheriff's deputies reported, and offered tips for residents on how to keep their homes and garages safe from unwanted intruders:

  • Keep roll up, side, and interior garage doors locked
  • Hide your garage door openers in your locked vehicles
  • Keep valuables away from street view
  • Use a physical lock on roll up door when on vacation
  • Install motion sensing lights and cameras around as well as inside your garage
  • If your garage opener has an intelligent timer to automatically close, consider using it
  • Be a good neighbor and let others know their garage is opened
