Mission Viejo Gives Front-Line Workers Larger-Than-Life Card

A group of Mission Viejo volunteers spelled out their thanks with an artistic installation "to cheer them up" arriving at work.

MISSION VIEJO, CA —Sometimes, a small thank you is just not enough.

In an effort to recognize healthcare workers and first responders on the front lines, the City created and installed a large art project in front of the new cancer center near Mission Hospital.

“Gratitude Letters to Honor Healthcare Workers,” as the project was named, was built by volunteer groups. Each group painted letters spelling “thank you."

The letters measure 4 feet by 8 feet.

With social distancing in place, masks and gloves, the volunteers painted the letters last week at the Potocki Center for the Arts.

“It was so great to watch the groups work together on a theme, color, design and collaboration for each letter,” said Cultural Services Supervisor Dru Maurer. “The installation is colorful and will hopefully cheer up the front-line workers as they come and go to the hospital.”

The art project is designed to leave a lasting mark on the men and women working tirelessly and selflessly during this COVID-19 crisis. The City is grateful to the following groups and individuals for their creative efforts.
