Mission Viejo: Join Live Interview With Holocaust Survivor On International Holocaust Remembrance Day

The City and Jewish Federation & Family Services of Orange County are recognizing Holocaust Remembrance Day (or Yom HaShoah) on Tuesday, April 21 by livestreaming an interview with a 90-year-old Auschwitz survivor. The interview begins at 3:30 pm and can be viewed live on the City’s website or on YouTube.

Sam S. was 10 years old in 1939 when the Germans invaded Poland and occupied his hometown of Jaworzno. Sam will share compelling first-person testimony of his survival of two concentration camps and daring escape from the death march. Sam has a riveting account of a child’s daredevil bravery, his pain and suffering and remarkable ingenuity in eluding the Nazis. Imprisoned together, Sam and his father had deeply opposing beliefs about whether the Jews should risk certain death to escape or practice their spiritual beliefs and trust divine protection.
This interactive afternoon program will be moderated by Symone Sass, the child of a Holocaust survivor known as a Second Generation (2G). As part of her own history, she understands the reality of living with the Holocaust.

The Mission Viejo community is invited to join via livestream at 3:30 pm on April 21 to hear Sam’s incredible stories. Questions can be submitted in advance by emailing remembrance@cityofmissionviejo.org. During the program, residents can also call in with questions by dialing 949-470-8464. We will address as many questions as possible during the 90-minute presentation.
