Mission Viejo Memorial Day Commemoration
Listen to Marine Corps Colonel and Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipients at the 2017 Memorial Day Commemoration.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Looking for things to do over Memorial Day? Mission Viejo has you covered, and wants to remind you about the reason for the Memorial Day Holiday, by focusing on local members of the Armed Forces who have served the United States with honor.
The community is invited to commemorate Memorial Day during a special ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 29 at the Mission Viejo Civic Center, 200 Civic Center.
Marine Corps Colonel Andrew Bergen will serve as the keynote speaker, discussing the importance of remembering the people who died while serving in our country's armed forces. He will be joined by Vietnam veteran Frans VandenBroek, a Purple Heart recipient and local resident.

The city’s Memorial Day ceremony will also include a color guard; rifle salute; and Taps as well as famed singer Dawn Wright.
The American Heroes Tribute Banners honoring veterans who have died in combat will serve as the backdrop of Mission Viejo’s Memorial Day tribute. The 3-foot by 9-foot banners pay homage to American soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Coffee and light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
