Two City Council seats are open in the General Municipal Election, which takes place on November 3. Candidates will be running for two-year terms rather than the typical four-year term because of the City’s Voting Rights Litigation Settlement. The City will continue to work towards the implementation of cumulative voting in the 2022 election at which time all five Council seats will be open.
Candidates have until 5 p.m. on August 7 to file nomination documents and statements of qualification for office. The deadline extends to Wednesday, August 12 if an incumbent is not running for re-election and does not file papers by the August 7 deadline.
