Mission Viejo Resident Wins Naming Rights To City Golf Course

Drum roll please … And the former Casta del Sol golf course has been renamed the Oso Creek Golf Course by resident Don Tayenaka as part of the City’s renaming contest.

Don’s submission was among more than 1,000 entries for the contest, which resulted with the top four finalists being The Links by Tami Clingan; Oso Viejo by Amy Jennings; The Greens by Robert Way, Sr. and Mission Viejo Golf Club by Aarif Mughal.

The City Council on September 8 officially voted to rename the golf course as the Oso Creek Golf Course. The name and variations of it were the most popular names submitted. The City looked at the first part of the name “Oso Creek” as the main criteria for renaming and selecting a winner and then added the words “golf course/club/links” as a separate decision.

The City, which is grateful to everyone who took part in the contest, will host an appreciation event on the “Terrace on the Green” at the golf course in October for the winners and runners up. Stay tuned for more exciting news about the Oso Creek Golf Course.
