Mission Viejo Residents Sound Off on Safety Issues
We asked Patch readers to share their biggest safety concerns in Mission Viejo. Here's what they'd change.

Mission Viejo, CA- Summer’s nearly here, and with each walk in the park, day at the pool and backyard BBQ comes the risk of snakebites, drowning and fires, but don’t worry! There’s no reason to stay cooped up inside all season.
Patch put together a list of summer safety tips to keep you safe and having fun while the weather’s warm. Make sure to give snakes their distance and always swim with a buddy to stay carefree during the dog days.
Keeping these tips in mind, there are other possible dangers that affect Mission Viejo residents year round.

We asked Patch readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:
- "No regulations on Sober Living / Half-way Homes moving into neighborhoods in Mission Viejo
- "Increased crime rate among all of Orange means more home robberies in MV."
- "The drivers! People here think the rules of the road do not apply to them. Just visit a drop off or pick off at any school in MV for a day. They are insane!"
- "Criminals coming from LA into our town to rob."
- "The so-called solicitors, I think the PD could spend more time patrolling the streets and let their presence be known."
- "People running red lights."
- "Opiates - for adults and teens alike. It's a pandemic here in Mission Viejo."
- "The eucalyptus trees. I love them but they need to be trimmed back more often. A huge branch fell on a car."
- "I'd go with people driving too fast through residential streets! Especially ignorant ones who do it when kids are present."
- "Our track has had multiple robberies of homes and cars. The cars on our street have been broken into 4 times in the last 5 months."
