MISSION VIEJO, CA — Aiming to help Mission Viejo students succeed this year — whether attending class in person, from home or via a hybrid-solution — local officials are hosting a new contest this week for all grade levels, coordinating with the 32nd Annual Walk Against Drugs.

More than $10,000 in prizes will be given away to winning contestants, local students from kindergarten to 12th grade, who submit photos of themselves holding drawings or messages "on how they make healthy choices and stay drug-, alcohol- and tobacco-free," said Mission Viejo Police Services.

Entries must be submitted by 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21.

"They should wear red to display their Red Ribbon spirit, be creative and have a parent’s permission to enter," the agency said. "We are giving away over $10,000 in prizes to help our students be more successful in school (homeschool, in classroom, hybrid, or distance learning)."

The law-enforcement agency is hosting the campaign with the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the City of Mission Viejo, local schools and businesses.
