Mission Viejo To Take First Step In Core Area Vision Plan

MISSION VIEJO, CA — The City of Mission Viejo is one step closer to realizing its Core Area Vision Plan as it prepares to perform maintenance work along a portion of Oso Creek, the city announced Wednesday.

The city, in partnership with an environmental biologist consultant, will focus on removing the invasive non-native plants that have overpopulated the creek starting Nov. 29. The effort will take about thirty days to complete, and by the end of it, the city hopes to leave the creek in its natural state with native plants.

This project, along with the Santa Margarita Water District's plan to build a state-of-the-art water treatment plant for the creek to clean and treat the water, are a part of the community's Core Area Vision Plan.

The plan is designed to provide a framework for open space that connects to Oso Creek by creating a central gathering place for community members. It is also intended to enhance community aesthetics, create a walkable village and connect Mission Viejo's civic and retail core to more restaurants, shops and cultural arts activities, the city said on its website.
