MISSION VIEJO, CA — The City of Mission Viejo is calling on local businesses and nonprofits to show off their scarecrow-making skills at the city's 5th Annual Scarecrow Contest. Participants will have a chance to bring awareness to their organizations and businesses through crafting a notable scarecrow worthy of doing more than just scaring crows.

Each scarecrow will be judged by the public during the city's annual Walk Against Drugs event. The categories residents can vote for include: most humorous, spookiest, best traditional, people’s choice and best character from a cartoon, movie, or comic book.

Those interested in participating in the contest can pick up a pre-made frame at the Murray Center in Mission Viejo by making an appointment Sept. 13 through Sept. 27. The customized scarecrows will be on display from Oct. 13 through Nov. 4, and voting ends on Oct. 28.
