Mission Viejo Councilman and retired Marine Corps Colonel Greg Raths announced his candidacy for U.S. Representative.

Mission Viejo Councilman and retired Marine Corps Colonel Greg Raths announced his candidacy for U.S. Representative for California’s 45th Congressional District before a crowd of more than 300 supporters at The Hills Hotel in Laguna Hills on Sunday, March 13. Raths, a Republican will be campaigning for the next 85 days leading to the June 7th primary, facing incumbent Republican Congresswoman Mimi Walters and two Democrats. Under California’s open primary system, the top two candidates move on to the November 2016 ballot.
“I want to be at the top vote getter,” said Raths. “People are fed up with establishment Republicans and Democrats. They are looking for someone they can trust. I served my country as a Marine Corps officer for over 30 years with honor and integrity, and the voters will be proud to have me represent them in Congress.”
Raths moved to Orange County in 1978 when assigned as a jet fighter pilot to the Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro. He commanded a Marine Corps Fighter/Attack Squadron, Marine Air Group, and served as Chief of Staff of a Marine Air Wing. He has 75 combat missions in the F/A-18 Hornet in three operations, the most notable, Operation Desert Storm. He also served for three years as Assistant Chief of Staff and Chief Financial Officer of the White House Military Office from 1996-1999. He was elected to the Mission Viejo City Council in November 2014.
