Paolo is known for his incredible work including "The Windup Girl." Set in a post-global-warming-apocalypse Bangkok, this novel about biotech intrigue won science fiction’s biggest awards and cemented his reputation as the ultimate political, sophisticated genre writer.

"The Water Knife’s" environmentally charged theme centers on a vicious fight over water rights in a near-future, desiccated American Southwest. It’s just as apocalyptic as his first book, more political and – according to Tom Shippey of The Wall Street Journal – is "the most thought-provoking of the recent apocalypses."
