OC Coroner Identified Ladera Ranch Resident in Silverado Scooter Fatality

The name of a man killed in a collision between a scooter and car in Silverado was released today. He was struck on Santiago Canyon rd. Mon.

LADERA RANCH, CA— Authorities today released the name of a 19-year-old man who was killed in a collision between a scooter and a car in Silverado.

Navpreet Singh of Ladera Ranch was riding his 2016 Syng Classic 125 about 50 mph south on Santiago Canyon Road, south of School Road about 5 p.m. Monday, when he was struck by a 1996 Honda Accord, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Jose Briseno, 25, of Hemet, who was driving the Honda about 50 mph north on Santiago Canyon, veered to the left into the southbound lane while negotiating a right turn in the road, according to the CHP.

The Honda crashed into the front of the scooter, causing it to overturn and slam into a dirt shoulder west of the road, the CHP reported.

Briseno's car continued going north in the southbound lane before slamming head-on into a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Robert Watkins, 65, of Lake Forest, according to the CHP.

Briseno and Watkins escaped injury. Singh, who was ejected in the initial collision, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
