The Orange County Fire Authority had to use a crane to lift the plane off the runway.

A single-engine plane’s landing gear collapsed while touching down at John Wayne Airport today, but the pilot and a passenger escaped injury.

It happened about 1 p.m. on runway 20 Left, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

Firefighters used a crane to get the plane off the runway, and it reopened about 1:50 p.m., Concialdi said.
