Powerball Jackpot $121 Million: Wednesday July 5, 2017

On Wednesday, July 5, 2017 the multi-state Powerball lottery announced the prize reaching $121 million. What would you buy with the prize?

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Powerball, the multi-state lottery announced their jackpot raised to $121 million on July 5, 2017, however, there were no tickets sold with all six numbers in Wednesday evening's drawing. The estimated jackpot for Saturday's drawing is expected to grow to $140 million.

There were also no tickets sold with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game, announced.

The numbers drawn Wednesday were 4, 9, 16, 54, 68 and the Powerball number was 21.

The estimated jackpot was $121 million.

Does $140 million seem minuscule to you? It might, compared to the January 2016 record Powerball jackpot, which was worth nearly $1.6 billion. (The billion-dollar-plus prize won in the Jan. 13, 2016, drawing was the largest lotto jackpot awarded in U.S. history and was split by three winners. In the summer of 2016, a New Hampshire player won a $478 million prize.

Do you like your odds? You have a better chance of hitting the jackpot if you let the computer pick your numbers, according to past results. The Multi-State Lottery Association, which operates the Powerball game, says about 75 percent of winning tickets are chosen by a computer.

The Powerball game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
