Mission Viejo Middle School Lockdown Lifted

A Monday morning lockdown was lifted following a scare at this Mission Viejo Middle School when a bus driver noticed kids with a weapon.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Orange County Sheriff's Department and the Newhart Middle School was locked down Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. Reports from the scene say that two students were seen waving what looked like handguns.

"Two students were seen by an OCTA bus driver with what appeared to be weapons outside the school campus," OCSD spokesperson Carrie Braun told Patch.

The alert driver called and deputies immediately responded. The school was placed on lockdown during the event, Braun said, adding, "both subjects were contacted and two Air soft type guns were collected by deputies."
