Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Grand Opening: Your Adventure Awaits
Disneyland Resort's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens to the public Friday, May 31. Patch presents a sneak peek behind the scenes!
ANAHEIM, CA - From an authentic Star Wars cantina on the Outer Rim of the galaxy to exotic Lucasfilm-worthy creatures, military encampments and daring missions aboard the Millennium Falcon, the Force is strong at Disneyland's Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, opening Friday. It's the first new Disneyland Resort land since Cars Land, and guests will find plenty to explore as they live their own adventures at the most anticipated theme park opening in decades.
It began with a dream partnership when the Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm, Lt. in 2012. Seven years later, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens with a glimpse into an entire new world of Batuu, where you can join the Resistance.
Geek out as much or as little as you want. Guests are greeted with "Bright Suns!" and part with "Til the Spire!" Yes. It's just one big adrenaline rush for the super fan.

If you were a child in the 70s, "Star Wars" was everything. We pretended to battle against the forces of the Dark Side, imagined we were side by side with Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca. The idea we get to walk into that world now is breathtaking.

It took 6,700 workers to design, construct and complete this land and just under two years to get it done. With 1,600 new jobs just to support the land, it's a vast undertaking for the 'happiest place on Earth.'
As the countdown to the opening gets underway, the air is filled with adventure.
Enter through one of three entrances at Disneyland Park, and you step into another realm.
It starts with a bustling market at the base of the stunning rock-work. That’s 200,000 square feet of painstakingly created stonework you see all around you, constructed out of 260,000 square feet of plaster.
The world of Batuu has the look and feel of an ancient city with the intergalactic flair of strange creatures and some familiar faces. Inside each experience, you’ll recognize the tomes of Academy Award-winning composer John Williams, with a full suite of themes written specifically for Galaxy’s Edge.
Black Spire Outpost Spaceport is where you’ll find the Millennium Falcon, which measures over 100 feet in length. Of the many spires that we’ve craned our necks to see from Big Thunder Mountain Rail Road and Splash Mountain, the tallest is 130 feet-high, and inside bears the signatures of the park workers on-hand while the land was under construction.
The Falcon, of course, is the focal point, though there are over a dozen different venues here. The primary attraction in early summer is Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (Later this summer, you can take in the jaw-dropping affair that will be Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance!). This is the first full-scale Millennium Falcon ever constructed.
When you enter, you’ll step through the exact same starboard airlock used by Han Solo and Chewbacca in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Sit at the table inside the Falcon, and what’s more, you can purchase the game! Just don’t play with Wookies, because, well, you know: they don’t like to lose.
A trip to Black Spire Outpost wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Cantina. Oga’s Cantina, lovingly recreated after the famed Star Wars location, serves food and drinks.
Patch will be sharing live Facebook posts on Mission Viejo Patch, and detailing all that awaits throughout the day! Welcome to the world of Batuu and Galaxy's Edge!
