On April 27, 2015 the Board voted to retroactively execute a 2015-15 employment contract with CUEA (10 months after the start of the 2014-15 Budget Year began). The new contract increased compensation by 3% (a 2% salary schedule increase and a 1% Off Schedule collaboration payment). The agreement retroactively increased compensation by $4,084 million dollars.

At average compensation of $108,000 (for 185 days of work limited to 7.5 hours per day); that would have bought the District 37 additional highly paid teachers (not entry level teachers) so that CUSD could meet it’s stated LCAP goal to reduce class sizes. Note: CUSD failed to meet that goal- there was no class size reduction in 2014-15.

On June 24, 2015 the Board voted to retroactively amend employment contracts to provide Teamster, CUMA and Deputy Superintendent Clark Hampton with the same 1% Off Schedule Collaboration payment that CUEA received in April, and did so without any Public in-put.

Total additional compensation $549,820 (enough to hire 5 new teachers to reduce class sizes)

  • Teamsters: $124,000
  • CUMA $422,000
  • Clark Hampton: $ 3,820
