Nationally acclaimed fiddler and writer Ken Waldman will give a free performance and writers' workshop in Aliso Viejo

Alaskan fiddler and writer Ken Waldman, who combines old-time Appalachian string-band music, original poetry and storytelling, will appear at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center on Tuesday, April 5.

The city of Aliso Viejo and Soka University Performing Arts Center are teaming up to host the free performance at 5 p.m.

Touring since 1995, Ken has appeared at some of the country's leading performing arts centers, concert series, festivals, universities and clubs. A fiddler for three decades, Ken has recorded more than 100 original tunes. His fiddling and composition skills are praised in journals such as Fiddler Magazine. The Denver Post describes his talent as "renegade Americana" and The Austin Chronicle says his performances are "always recommended."

A former college professor with a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing, Ken will also offer a free interactive writing workshop before his performance from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. He will provide four writing prompts to help writers of any age start new pieces as well as strategies for beginning many more. Reservations are required as space is limited for this special opportunity, which is open to writers of all levels and experience.

For more information or to make a reservation for the writing workshop, contact 949-425-2550 or community-services@cityofalisoviejo.com.
