Troop 661 Hosts "Aware and Care" Day
An event bringing awareness of the daily challenges faced by people with disabilities.
On October 21st local Mission Viejo Boy Scout Troop 661 held an "Aware and Care" event at Mount of Olives Church. The event was designed to bring awareness of the challenges that people with disabilities such as blindness, deafness, autism, etc. face. The Boy Scouts in the troop ran the event which was an elective requirement for younger scouts called Webelos. The Scouts and Webelos were able to directly experience what it is like to have these impairments, in the hopes they will gain more empathy for people with disabilities. The scouts participated in four different "stations" each simulating a specific disability or mobility impairment. The events were held at 1pm and 3pm and each lasted 90 minutes.
We were also fortunate to have Brian Deskin, an Eagle Scout from Troop 661 from a few years past, return to share his daily experiences and challenges of living with Cerebral Palsy.
Troop 661 Website is chartered by Mount of Olives Church, 24771 Chrisanta Drive, Mission Viejo.
