Troop 661's Latest Eagle Scout - Jacob Weiser

Jacob Riley Weiser, 15, of Mission Viejo is the latest young man from Boy Scout Troop 661 to ascend to the lofty rank of Eagle Scout. Jacob started his Scouting career at the age of 11 when he joined Troop 661 in Mission Viejo, California where he started his journey to Eagle Scout. Along the way he grew to love the outdoor life with camping, hiking and fishing.

His leadership positions included Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. Jacob has completed 33 nights of Camping, 102 miles of Hiking, 68 service hours and has completed 23 Merit Badges. He was also awarded the Boy Scouts World Conservation Award.

Jacob’s favorite memories of Scouting was rifle shooting and camping. His favorite camp out was 7-Oaks. Jacob’s favorite Hike was the “Mountains to the Sea,” which was a 20 mile hike he had to accomplish to complete his Hiking Merit Badge.

Jacob’s Eagle Project was bulding a new bench for Linda Vista Elementry School in Mission Viejo. The leadership skills learned in Scouting enabled him to plan, fundraise, and complete a massive project which included demolition of existing 12ft x 12ft. square wooden bench; building and painting an identical bench. Also, planting flowers in the center of the bench.

He had to purchase wood, flowers, painting materials; and organize volunteer workers for three weekends of hard work to complete his project.

Jacob received his Eagle Rank after his Board of Review on April 28, 2016.

Jacob is currently a Junior at Aliso Niguel High School. His future plans are to go to a University and perhaps major in Marine Biology or Environmental Science.
