Deadly Collision Reported At Wagon Wheel Elementary School

A crash between three vehicles claimed the life of an Coto De Caza man Monday near Wagon Wheel Elementary School.

COTO DE CAZA, CA — One person was killed and another hospitalized after a Monday morning crash on Oso Parkway, officials report. The collision happened in the area of Wagon Wheel Elementary School, according to the Orange County coroner's office. The victim was identified late Monday as a 79-year-old Coto De Caza resident.

The crash happened just after 11:15 a.m. at Oso Parkway and Bridle Path, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz. OCFA units responded to find one man dead upon impact.

"A man in his late 70s was declared dead at the scene," Kurtz said. "He was driving one of two cars that collided with a cargo van."

Photos from the scene showed a sedan with the front half smashed in and a van lying on its roof.

The van's driver was rushed to an area hospital with traumatic injuries, Kurtz said. The driver of the other car escaped injury, he said.

Oso Parkway was closed at Bridle Path to Coto De Caza Drive.
