Will You Walk to School with Bathgate Elementary Tomorrow?
Bathgate Elementary Gears up for National Walk to School Day tomorrow!
Bathgate Elementary School will be participating in the National Walk to School day on Oct. 7, 2014 ( Wednesday) with 3,887 other schools all over the world that have registered to all participate in this annual event.
The K-5 grade schoolchildren are encouraged to Walk or Bike to School bright and early tomorrow, as this program hopes to promote a healthy lifestyle, a means to reducing air pollution and traffic and as a way to spend quality with a family member.
Every student that participates in the event will receive a “Character Counts” ticket.
At Bathgate, Children work on daily basis towards building good character. Students are recognized with “Character Counts” tickets when they make good decisions, show responsibility, impart kindness, and demonstrate a caring attitude that contributes to the unity of our Bathgate school community.

Each week, “Character Counts” tickets are drawn at the Friday Flag Assembly to reward students from each grade level.
The event will start at 7:35am, with students assembling at the following corners first before walking to school together : the corner of Mikanos and Ridgemark, the corner of San Rafael and Barcelona, and the corner of San Rafael and Athens.

Mission Viejo Mayor Cathy Schlicht will walk to school with Bathgate Principal Shelly Kurtz with other members of the faculty. The Mission Viejo Fire Department and Police Station will likewise be on hand to make sure the event is safe and fun for all those who attend.
Last year, 86% of the Mission Viejo’s school population walked to school for the event, earning Bathgate a third place prize from the national Fire Up Your Feet contest. The blue-ribbon school won a cash prize of $1,700 from Fire Up Your Feet in two separate wellness challenges last school year with the funds being used towards new P.E. equipment and training of school personnel.
