Wrong Way Driver Causes Mission Viejo SIG Alert

A vehicle driving the wrong direction on the Northbound 5 Freeway caused a crash and sig alert on Monday morning, CHP said.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — A collision between a wrong-way driver and another motorist closed the San Diego Freway temporarily, California Highway Patrol said.

A motorist, driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the San Diego 5 Freeway, between La Paz Road and Alicia Parkway caused the collision, according to CHP authorities.

The collision was reported at shortly before 4:30 a.m., CHP said. There was no indication of injuries on the CHP's website.

A SigAlert for the HOV lane and lanes 1 and 2 of the northbound San Diego Freeway between La Paz Road and Alicia Parkway was ordered to clear the damaged vehicles.

The roadway was clear and reopened shorlty after 5 a.m.
