• Heat advisory affecting Northern California Wednesday and Thursday (sacbee.com) — A heat advisory is in effect for Modesto and much of Central Stanislaus County from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. Thursday, with highs near 100 and warm nights. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit midday outdoor activity, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles as heat illness risks increase.
   

• West Nile virus cases rise in California, Stanislaus County reports hospitalizations (kcra.com) — Stanislaus County is seeing a worrying rise in West Nile virus, with five confirmed cases and three hospitalizations, and Modesto health providers urging residents to seek care quickly if symptoms appear. Local officials recommend using mosquito repellent and clearing standing water around homes, as older adults face the highest risk for severe complications.
