mONROVIA'S cONTRACT WITH THE iNLAND VALLEY ANIMAL cONTRIL IS COMING UP FOR RENEWAL. INLAND VALLEY IS THE HIGHEST KILL SHELTER IN THE STATE. mONROVIA NEEDS TO TEACH people that animals are not disposable and if there is a problem there is a solution. The South L.A. Shelter in Los Angeles has a program to keep pes out of the shelter. If You have vet bill you cannot paythey find a rescur group that will pay and the family vollunteers to pay for it. If you have a dog that barks too much, chews things, or is not potty trained take the dog to a training class. The vollunteer will fix a fence, pay a vet bill. They finf low cost spaying/ neuteringand work with people to find a solution. Almost half the people they see at South want to keep the much loved pet. In cases where there is a landlord issue they pay the pet deposit. In some cases the family pet is at the end of their life and they cannot afford the vet. In those cases thevet bill is paid for ( and it usualy is less than keeping the pet in the shelter for ten days; and the good thing th pet does not spend their last time on earth in a cold cage. they are with their families. for more information look for a article in the la Times on Sat May 11 this year. It is on page 2 part A
