AeroVironment Receives $11.1 Million for Logistics Support
The order comprises Army, Marine Corps and Foreign Military Sales contractor logistics support for RQ-11B Raven Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
AeroVironment, Inc. announced that it received a new $11,095,872 cost-plus-fixed sole source contract from the United States Army, according to a press release issued Monday. The order encompasses contractor Army, Marine Corps, and Foreign Military Sales contractor logistics support for Raven Systems. The logistics support services are slated to be delivered through Feb. 28, 2013.
“AeroVironment’s UAS logistics operation supports systems deployed worldwide to ensure a consistently high level of operational readiness,” said Tom Herring, senior vice president and general manager, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, in the press release.
“The Raven system continues to be an important asset for U.S. and allied armed forces,” Herring said.

The RQ-11B Raven is part of AeroVironment’s Family of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems. The RQ-11B Raven weighs 4.2 pounds, is backpackable and consists of a hand-launched sensor platform that delivers “day and night, real-time video imagery wirelessly to a portable ground control station for ‘over the hill’ and ‘around the corner’ reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition in support of tactical units.”
The RQ-11B Raven works with a common ground control system (GCS), which allows for increased functionality to the warfighter that can enable ground commanders to differentiate among aircrafts and select the appropriate aircraft based on the type of mission.

The U.S. military uses Raven systems for missions involving route reconnaissance, base security, mission planning, and force protection.
