(monrovianow.com) — Monrovia police handled a busy week of calls from August 20–26, including multiple vehicle thefts and burglaries, a catalytic converter spree, and a shoplifting arrest on Huntington. Officers also stopped a stolen delivery vehicle pursuit for public safety and recovered a firearm left in a bag on Myrtle. Residents across several neighborhoods reported shattered windows, stolen tools, and fraud involving an online car purchase.
2. Free Water Conservation Workshops Coming This Fall (midvalleynews.com) — Monrovia residents can attend a free fire-resilient gardening workshop this fall at Upper Water's office on East Foothill Boulevard, with a virtual version also offered. The broader series includes classes on native plants, irrigation, garden design, and rainwater capture, all aimed at helping San Gabriel Valley homeowners cut water use and improve landscape resilience.
3. Wanted man arrested after officers spot him during their lunch break at Panda Express in Monrovia (abc7.com) — Officers on lunch break at the Panda Express on West Huntington Drive in Monrovia recognized and arrested a man wanted on a no-bail felony probation warrant. Police say he had previously escaped by running onto a freeway, prompting a change in tactics. After the low-key arrest inside the restaurant, the officers simply went back and finished their chow mein.
4. San Gabriel Valley gets nearly $950,000 to fund wildfire prevention projects (dailynews.com) — Monrovia is the dateline for nearly $950,000 in new state funding that will support wildfire prevention projects across the San Gabriel Valley. The grant to the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments will pay for vegetation removal and fuel-reduction work in high fire-risk zones, including a major treatment project in Claremont Wilderness Park to help protect thousands of homes.
