You've heard of Carmageddon and Jamzilla. Here’s another one for the local lexicon: Carcadia. It’s Arcadia’s equivalent to an automotive flash mob that happens every fourth Sunday of the month at 7:30 a.m., right off of Route 66, in the lot behind the windmill-laden Denny’s restaurant that once served as a Van de Kamp Bakery store.
Carcadia is a product of Arcadia’s Best Foundation, with support from Acadia’s Turn3 Creative. “It started with a handful of cars in December of 2013, and has grown exponentially,” says Carcadia co-founder Glenn Oyoung. “Even Denny’s has gotten into the act, offering 15 percent off to Carcadia participants.
While Carcadia is no day-long affair, a “flash mob” is not an entirely accurate description either. This “mob” goes on for around 90 minutes before the cars start to dissipate—at least until the fourth Sunday of the next month.
