Arroyo High Wrestling Coach Ordered To Register As Sex Offender For Sex With Students

POMONA, CA — A former part-time wrestling coach at Arroyo High School in El Monte was sentenced Wednesday to a year in county jail and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life as a result of his plea to sex-related charges involving two female students.

David Vaca Jr., 21, of West Covina, was also ordered to attend 52 sexual compulsion classes and to stay away from the teens, along with a third girl, for the next 10 years, according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

A state prison term of three years and eight months was suspended, meaning he won't have to serve that term unless he fails to comply with the terms of his probation.

Vaca pleaded no contest June 6 to one count each of sexual penetration by a foreign object and oral copulation of a person under 18, Ardalani said.

El Monte police and prosecutors said the crimes were committed at various locations in El Monte and South El Monte during an 18-month span.

Vaca was arrested Feb. 1 and was charged two days later with 20 felony counts involving the three students, but the charges to which he entered his plea involved crimes in 2015 and 2017 with two of the girls, Ardalani said.
