Calif. Couple Identified As Duo In Viral Yosemite Proposal Photo

A man captured a stranger's marriage proposal while at Taft Point. Then, he asked the Internet for help in finding the newly engaged couple.

ALHAMBRA, CA – It was a case of a stranger in the right place at the right time. Perched on top of a ledge at Taft Point in Yosemite National Park, Matthew Dippel took the photo of a lifetime: a marriage proposal, one of the most intimate moments between a couple, happening right in front of him across the valley.

But who were these two strangers?

Dippel took to Facebook, posting the photo and asking the Internet for help in finding the newly engaged couple that he snapped the photograph of Oct. 6. The post had more than 20,000 shares, 6,000 likes and 1,100 comments – people were invested in finding the mystery couple.

Two weeks later, Dippel went back to Facebook to announce he'd found them.

Charlie Bear and his fiancee, Melissa, were identified as the couple in the photo. The duo from Alhambra told Dippel it was the "second proposal" – the more "special and official one." Congratulations to the newly engaged couple!
