Campfire Restrictions in Angeles National Forest Eased Because of Decreased Fire Danger

The fire danger rating for the two areas was lowered from "extreme" to "very high," according to United States Forest Service.

MONROVIA, CA -- Some restrictions on campfires in Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel National Monument were eased Monday in response to a decreased wildfire danger.

The fire danger rating for the two areas was lowered from "extreme" to "very high," according to United States Forest Service spokesman Nathan Judy.

"Recent rain and snowfall have increased moisture levels in grasses and shrubs across the Southland," Judy said. "With more rain and snow anticipated, fire management officials lowered the fire danger level to reflect the change in conditions."

A "very high" fire danger rating is fourth-highest on a six-level scale.

The change in designation allows for the use of camp fires within developed campgrounds and barbecues in picnic areas, but other restrictions remain.
